Symptoms Survey

Welcome to our SSM Symptoms Survey. Through this simple survey, we aim to establish if further investigation into the symptoms you are experiencing is required.

Menopause diagnosis is complex. There is no one test that can be taken to determine if menopause has begun. Instead, a holistic view of symptoms, lifestyle and life stage are used to assesses and identify if a person could be entering perimenopause.

The symptoms of perimenopause and menopause are vast and varied. No two patients’ experiences are identical.

Listed below are possible symptoms. The average perimenopause and menopause patient will present around 7 of these symptoms before seeking medical help. For some patients to reach this stage of perimenopause can be very distressing. Our aim is to educate women, so they seek assistance earlier on in their journey to avoid the more severe symptoms and receive the correct diagnosis and care.

The most commonly recognised symptoms of perimenopause and menopause are:

  • Difficulty sleeping

  • Low mood or anxiety

  • Mood swings

  • Reduced sex drive

  • Problems with memory or concentration

  • Irregular periods

  • Weight gain

  • Joint stiffness

  • Recurrent UTIs

  • Night sweats

  • Hot flushes

  • Vaginal dryness

  • Osteoporosis

The lesser-known symptoms are:

  • Allergies including asthma-like symptoms

  • Tingling in the hands and feet

  • Acne

  • Headaches

  • Painful/tender breasts

  • Bloating

  • Dizziness or feeling faint

  • Frequent urination

  • Feeling tense

  • Gum issues

  • Heart palpitations

  • Tiredness/Low energy

  • Dry skin

All of the above can start to happen long before periods stop, and a woman develops hot flushes.

If you are over 40 years old and experiencing 4 or more of these symptoms regularly, then we recommend that you speak to a GP who specialises in menopause and women’s health to assess if further investigation is required.

If you have concerns or worries about any symptoms you may be experiencing, then please contact your GP.
